CDE (Capital Disposal Equipment)
Originally trading is "Canadian Disposal Equipment", Toronto-based CDE was producing this front loader as early as 1981, in 36 and 40 cubic yard capacities. Designed by Quinto De Filippi, this was an unusual looking front loader, with its massive appearance and large tailgate "bustle". Inside, the packing system was also out of the ordinary:
An inside look reveals a pair of cross-mounted, single stage cylinders (green highlights) that drive the platen (blue) during the normal packing cycle, and this entire assembly rides atop a secondary sliding floor panel (red) which is in turn driven by a multiple-stage telescopic cylinder (brown) used to eject the load. Thus, the speed and force of the "half-pack" was obtained without the need for tipping at the disposal point
Examples of CDE front loaders have been found using a conventional, angled packing cylinder. Published specs from 1982 concur, showing a single 9-1/2" telescopic ram for the packer. It is possible that the system shown in the illustration was experimental as was never actually produced. Or, it may have been produced initially, only to be replaced by the conventional ram.
By the early 1990's, the company had kept the CDE moniker, but was now going by "Capital Disposal Equipment". In addition to the front loader, a roll-off and transfer trailers, a rear loader was also available as pictured at left.
Nothing else is known about the rear loader, though it appears to be of the conventional slide-sweep type with all packing cylinders mounted internally.
Pictured above, the Jumbo II QRX40 front loader combined the packing system of the original front loader with a light weight circular body. A 1993 advertisement (shown below) shows the City Pack rear loader featuring a trackless, swing-link packer mechanism similar to E-Z Pack's Goliath. Also note the appearance of a curved-shell front loader
CDE is currently believed to be building roll-offs, luggers and front loaders
