1970 Western Barrel-Snatcher
"The Son of Godzilla"
Owned by The City of Scottsdale Arizona, Solid Waste Management Division

Historic truck #254, retired in the early 1980's, today resides at the Field Operations Corporate Yard.

Its working days now done, #254 occasionally leaves home for shows & special events

Not only is this vehicle representative of the landmark development of automated collection systems, it is in all probability the only surviving Western Full-Pak body and Diamond Reo CF-5542 chassis.

CRT sincerely thanks the Solid Waste Management Division, City of Scottsdale for preserving this historic truck. Also, many thanks to James Livingston and Rick Pence for sharing these photos and information with CRT.

For much more on this story, Rick has written a book "Revolutionizing an Industry: The Story of Mechanized Residential Refuse Collection in the City of Scottsdale Arizona". Those interested may obtain a free single copy of this book upon request, while supplies last. To obtain a copy, send your name and address to RICK PENCE or JAMES LIVINGSTON at the City of Scottsdale, Solid Waste Management Division. Postage may apply if shipped outside the U.S.
