Glover, Webb & Liversidge

TYPE 202 LOADMASTER
REVOLVING-BLADE REAR LOADER

In 1975 the Company moved to Hamble, near Southampton, where refuse collection vehicle production continued under the shortened moniker of Glover Webb Ltd., with later bodies simply badged as Glovers. The 202 Load Master was a compression loader similar to Shelvoke & Drewry's Revopak. It was offered on SD, Dennis, Leyland or Dodge chassis.

Loadmaster's packer plate was chain driven, and unlike rival Revopak, utilized a closed plate instead of the tine rake favored by S & D. Packing cycle was continuous, with ejection unloading.

(Left) Picture taken in 1988 of two new Leyland Municipal Freighters mounted with Glover Webb Loadmaster bodies. Registered as E784 FWP and E788 FWP respectively. These vehicles were fitted with a Granning lift axle enabling their gross weight limits to be raised to 19,000KG. Livery is that of Worcester City Council and the picture was taken in their depot.

The company continues in production specialising in high security vehicles, but no longer offers refuse collection vehicles. A valuable source of information about Glover, Webb and Liversidge has been a booklet the company produced in 1970 to celebrate 250 years of their existence.
