Dispos-Haul Roll-Off System
Gar Wood marketed the The Dispos-Haul system in the mid-1960s, a roll-off system designed by Portland, Oregon hauler and inventor Harold G. Alexander. Container boxes were available in 10, 20, 30 and 40 cubic yard capacities.
Dispos-Haul featured an improved chain drive, powered by hydraulic motors. The original 1960 version had utilized a winch and cable drive.
The endless roller chain actuated a carriage and hook assembly, enabling the driver to hook-up containers without leaving the cab. In the center image, note the rearward-facing box lock (hook), one of two that automatically secured the loaded box once it was fully forward on the frame.
32-second container loading cycle. Entire operation could be performed from inside the truck cab.

Container-spotting hook allowed for easily positioning of empty boxes. Cab-over-engine truck was required to provide driver with visibility

The Dispos-Haul was a welcome addition to the Gar Wood lineup of refuse collection equipment. Unfortunately, it was introduced during a turbulent period for the company, which would be in serious financial trouble by the end of the decade. Harold Alexander's roll-off designs continued to be sold through independent builders on the West Coast through the 1970s and 1980s.
