American Vehicles Incorporated (AVI)
Pomona, California
and Serrano International (Fontana, California)

AVI was formed as a division of Wayne Engineering to build their own truck bodies, as well as for other customers. AVI hired industry veteran Albert Serrano, who had previously worked for Maxon, C&O/Dempster and Stagg to design and build the new product. During its existence, AVI produced bodies for Crown Disposal (10-12 units), the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation (about 15 units) and a few dozen more for other companies.

AVI went bankrupt and was sold in 1996. Albert Serrano continued to build his own bodies at Fontana, California under the name Serrano International, an export company he had formed. Fire destroyed the warehouses and yard and led to bankruptcy in the late 1990s. In 2000, Albert Serrano teamed up with hauler Universal Waste Systems (UWS) to produce front loaders for that company under the new name of Service International. Serrano passed away in 2015.
