1960s Shelvoke & Drewry Pakamatic
SD's flagship packer of the 1960's, the Pakamatic was really a modern version of the 1930's Reyloader with its "sliding drawer" packer mechanism, a method still popular on side loading designs to this day. Contributor Tim Byrne informs us this is one of two, destined for export, on a three-axle Leyland Mammoth Major. The majority of these bodies went out on SD's own chassis, but it was also available separately, and occasionally was mounted on proprietary makes of the buyers choice as shown here.
We have a brief history of Shelvoke & Drewry here at CRT in the SD Album, written by Brian Carpenter. For more information, be sure to visit Brian's website devoted to all things SD, the Unofficial Shelvoke & Drewry Website
