1946 Gar Wood Load-packer
The year was 1946: Civilian production was in full swing, Gar Wood Industries was under new ownership, and the firm had a virtual lock on the refuse packer body market. This shiny new Load-Packer on a Federal truck chassis is ready for service for the City of Mansfield, Ohio, Department of Sanitation. This rear view offers a good view of the packer mechanism with the blade extended in the "packing" position. The Load-Packer had been through many revisions during its short existence up to this point, and would remain in production in this form for another five years until the introduction of the 200 series.
