Classic Refuse Trucks

JANUARY, 2005 UPDATE

Welcome to the Classic Refuse Trucks January update. Unfortunately, I have been unable to add any photos to the CRT albums this month due to an unusually busy December. I have, however changed the title page picture, which is now a fleet of 1937 GMC's with Leach Refuse Getter bodies from Madison, Wisconsin. And of course, a new Truck of the month is featured.

Also this month, a new reference is available: Refuse Trucks on film, which is accessible from the navigation bar at left by clicking the FILMS button. This is a list of films and television shows in which refuse trucks appear. The list will be updated regularly, and I encourage everyone to submit film or TV titles not currently listed. Walter Lewellen of Florida and James O'Rourke of Staffordshire, UK have both submitted titles for the first edition. James also suggested adding video clips to CRT, a very good idea that I will consider for the future as bandwidth permits.

Jaap Mikkers from Zwolle, Netherlands, e-mailed with information on the Mammut that appeared in the Help Wanted section of CRT. Jaap is quite knowledgeable regarding European refuse trucks, and had helped me last summer with photos of the RAVO LP-901, a Dutch version of the Gar Wood LP-900. I will try to provide more detail on the Mammut within CRT in the near future.

I hope that CRT will be useful as an "Information Exchange" for those interested in the history of refuse trucks. I sincerely thank all of you have e-mailed with help and suggestions.
