FEBRUARY, 2006 UPDATE

I don't get a chance to run many color pictures of classic trucks, so it was easy to select the Dempster Dinosaur as the February Truck of the Month. The three color scheme was probably designed to set off the details of this detachable container system which was some what new when the photo was taken. It's also nice to feature a refuse truck mounted an International Harvester CO series cabover truck, which was very popular choice among refuse haulers here in the North America during the 1950's and 1960's. A completely revised Dempster album was added last month, which features more classic Dempster pictures and history.

CRT VINTAGE ADVERTISING AUCTION ON EBAY

WHAT IS IT ? For the first time, I will be selling original vintage refuse truck ads on Ebay. Over 100 vintage refuse truck ads will be offered, with most opening bids for single ads starting at a mere $0.99. To my knowledge, no seller has ever offered this much material at one time for such low opening bids. I'm not discontinuing this site, but merely cleaning house after several years of collecting. This is a great opportunity for those interested in old paper to own some great vintage ads, and the proceeds will help me offset the costs of purchasing material, as well as domain name and copyright fees for CRT. Many of the ads I will be selling are rare and have seldom, if ever, been offered before on ebay before.

WHEN IS IT, AND HOW DO I VIEW THE AUCTION LISTINGS ? Due to the large quantity of items, they will be broken up into four groups of listings beginning Sunday, February 5th. Auctions duration will be seven days. I will keep and update an Auction Schedule page here at CRT with detailed information, which can be viewed by clicking the "CRT Ebay" button on the navigation bar. From there, follow the link at the top of the page to view the current Ebay Auction Listings

WHAT ABOUT SHIPPING ? Most ads will qualify for shipping discounts, allowing buyers to purchase an unlimited amount of single ads and pay only $2.75 shipping (in the USA).

PAYMENT Details on payment methods can be found in the auction listings. However, multiple auction winners should keep in mind that if using Paypal, a lump-sum payment must be made to qualify for shipping discounts. This is because Paypal will charge me (the seller) a transaction fee on each payment made; therefore lump sum payments help keep this transaction fee somewhat reasonable.Worldwide bidders are welcome, but I can only accept payment through Paypal, in U.S. Dollars. This is because of the exorbitant rates that banks charge to cash international bank drafts/money orders. Cash in U.S.D. is acceptable, but strictly at the sender's risk and is not recommended.

Since the auctions will be spread out, I will allow buyers to hold payment for a few days in cases where they wish to bid on more upcoming auctions.

COLLECTORS CORNER: BRUDER HALLER X2
This month I have added some photos of the Bruder toys model 02660 Haller X2 rear loader. These highly detailed and functional models are among the best replicas currently being produced, and will be of interest to collectors of all ages. Click here to visit the Collectors Corner or use the buttons on the navigation bar.

REFUSE TRUCKS ON FILM
Two new feature film titles have been added to the list this month: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Jeff Jonas and Goodfellas courtesy of Mark McKeon.

I have also reviewed and added photos from the two 1971 Hawaii 5-0 episodes originally submitted by Chuck Franke a few months back. The front loader shown in both episodes looks to be a vintage Bemars model. Sincere thanks to my sister Valerie Smolar, for providing me with these shows for review. For details, visit the CRT Films page.

MEMBERS AREA AT MSN GROUPS
Dozens and dozens and dozens of photos describes the CRT Members Area at MSN Groups. Once again, Tim Byrne has come through with an astounding array of refuse truck photos from Greece and across Europe. Martin from Sweden has also posted pictures of his latest working replica, a SEMAT Robopac, so be sure to have a look.

The content of the Members Area is excellent as always, thanks to all of you who post and contribute. Though small in membership, we actually rank very high in activity among all MSN Groups. There have been some nagging performance issues have been troublesome for myself and some other members. I am trying to work through this with MSN, and apologize for any inconvenience.

RUNNING CHANGES TO THE WEBSITE
The BOWLES brochure download had to be pulled a little early, due to the constraints of available web space. I will try to post a new download in the near future. Also the single-page feature "Refuse Truck Logos" has been discontinued.
