Classification: Auger (or screw) type Refuse Packers
LOADING: CONTINUOUS

A refuse packer body which loads and compresses by means of a continuously-rotating auger (Archimedean screw). May load from rear, side or front, and auger may be partly enclosed. Power means may be mechanical, hydraulic or any combination. Auger may be any length, and may work in tandem with multiple augers. May be an attachment, or integrated into the main body structure.

Classification excludes: Models in which the auger is not the primary loading mechanism (i.e. an auger that only trims the load within the body).

The earliest known production refuse packer was an auger type introduced by Krupp in 1921, but this was mostly eclipsed by mass-produced Norba models from the 1930s-1970s. Now considered too hazardous for hand-loaded applications, has seen a resurgence in recent years with automated side loaders (ASL) by Genove and New-Way.
