ENGINE OIL Engines require the proper oil for lubrication, temperature control and internal cleaning. Crankcase oil that is seldom changed leads to engine wear. Oil that is never changed leads to engine failure. The sludge shown here came from a seized V-twin with low hours that had not been maintained. The oil had the consistency of a light liquid grease.
