The Great Remodeling, Part II: The Painting
February 3, 1991
Painting commenced on a Sunday, The 3rd of February, 1991. Mike Kiernan was the paint contractor, and I helped him work on the white house. A friend of Mike's who was also a commercial painter, would start spraying the main building, which was mostly cinder block and brick. We probably started on Sunday because the weather was good, and the shop was closed, so we had the place to ourselves. This was a monumental task, because of the height (on the west side) of the white house, and the abysmal condition of the wood. I would imagine Lyndon Johnson was President when it had last had a paint job.
(February 3 1991) Front entrance, white house. This what we were up against!
(February 3 1991) North east corner, with demo lumber and fence sections piled up
(February 3 1991) Setting up a scaffold over the garage door pit
(February 3 1991) Scraping the old paint off the south side
(February 3 1991) Mike (at left) and me painting trim on the east side
(February 3 1991) View of east side from across Beverly Road
Painting the west side of the main building, from Vincent Place. Can't remember the name of this painter who worked with Mike
(February 3 1991) West side completed, as viewed from Vincent Place. This cinder block wall enclosed "the hole"
(February 3 1991) Newly extended north side and new wall extension now painted
(February 3 1991) Painting the east side, near the side entrance
(February 3 1991) East side view, taken from the top floor of the white house
(February 3 1991) Southside entrance: The main building now completed. This part went rather quickly.
